Susie Bubble’s London

A Concise Guide

As we have already mentioned, Susie Bubble – our guest of the month on CoNscious – is always travelling, after all, moving from event to event and from continent to continent, in search of novelties to share is an essential part of her stylebubble.typepad.com. This said, and as Susie proudly declares, she is a Londoner at heart. The British capital is the city she calls home, and it is there that we met her – on a break between a trip to California and the next leg of her journey, this time in Scandinavia. It came spontaneously to ask her which three places in London really make her feel at home – and here is her verdict.

COMMERCIAL TAVERN 142-144 Commercial Street, London “Is a pub in Shoreditch, East London, but it isn’t the classical old English pub that you all imagine. It’s completely different: the interior is full of interesting, contrasting items, and I like the fact that the aesthetic of the space is mirrored by the atmosphere, which is really relaxed and in a certain sense, homely. I spend – and have spent – many nights there when I am in London. Perhaps it is because I travel so much, but when I am here I prefer cosy, easy-going places to the chaos of more famous bars. It makes me feel at home”.

MAGMA BOOKSTORE 117-119 Clerkenwell Road, London “Magma Bookstore in Clerkenwell is by far the best bookshop for me in London. It has a vast selection of books on art, design, fashion and photography and an equally extensive selection of magazines. I love coming here to do research and spend time searching for inspiration. I adore printed magazines and have been reading fashion mags since I was barely thirteen. I think the first magazine that I ever bought was a copy of The Face, but then came i-D and Dazed, with whom I now collaborate on the digital version. Magazines are a fundamental part of my life, they embody something that I grew up with and with which I have grown.

A LITTLE OF WHAT YOU FANCY 464 Kingsland Road, London “I have fallen in love with this little restaurant in East London. The first time I went there with a some girlfriends, I was greatly impressed by the freshness of the food and the homely atmosphere of the place. The menu harks back to traditional home-cooked English dishes, with a particular focus on the freshness of the basic ingredients. After fashion, food is the thing I love most: I enjoy cooking, but I like eating out and trying new tastes even more, and for this London offers an incredible variety, which is really lucky for me as I consider myself to be an adventuress of food. Let’s just say that I find my perfect balance in between trying new dishes and going back to my roots in London and my Chinese origins”.
